Without a closet organizer system in place, most anyone is going to find themselves with a closet that is sloppy and disorganized. In order to make the most of your space, you need a logical system in order to sort out your closet. With some cash and a few hours time, you can get a working system up and running. Let’s look at 4 tips that will get you on your feet!
1. Removing items no longer worn, used, or needed.
Do not skip this step! Go through all your closet items and remove what’s not been taken out in the last year. You can either sell it on line or donate it to a local thrift store, just get it out of there! It only should be in your closet if you use it.
2. Shoe racks are great.
This tip is especially helpful for women and the few men among us who share a love for shoes. A shoe rack – such as one that hands on the inside of the closet door – will do a lot to help you and your shoes find one another as needed!
3. Install a doubling rod.
Who couldn’t use more space to hang clothes? The doubling rod does just that. By hanging a shirts length below and from your existing closet rod, you can have a second rod up in just minutes. This is a great way to get extra space without spending a lot of money on any fancy organizer toys.
4. Put together similar stuff.
Now that you’ve removed upwards of half your clothes, gotten the shoes organized, and doubled the amount of hanging space, the final step is to logically sort what’s left. How do we do that? By simply groping like items together, such as putting all your summer dresses together, and then your dress pants, dress shirts, and so on. This will allow you to easily see what clothes you have in your closet and simply grab what you need and go.
Organizing a closet doesn’t have to take a lot of time or money, just a few simple methods combined with some organizer tools and you will be well on your way. If you’ve followed the four steps above, then you will be in a position to actually use the closet for what it’s intended for: a place to store all your clothes and easily access them without a second thought!
