The art of archery was believed to be first introduced during the Mesolithic Period. During the earlier times, archery is mainly for hunting and combat. Nowadays, it also serves to be a past time and hobby. Archery became more famous especially with the different characters that made it even more interesting and well-known. Here are some of them.

When it comes to handling a bow and arrow, most people will always think of Robin Hood. A well known fictional bowman that steals from rich men and give them to the poor. He is also known for standing against injustice in Nottinghamshire.

Robin Hood is well known for his expertise in longbow, and with his shot of splitting an arrow with another arrow. Archery is also his way of combating anyone who will go against their way.

Another character is Green Arrow or Oliver Jonas Queen. Just like Robin Hood, Green Arrow is a fictional character from the DC comics and had first appeared in 1941. Behind a good archer, is a secret identity of being a former mayor and a billionaire who lives in Star City.

Green arrow is proficient with different types of bow. He uses recurve, compound and his favorite longbow. He also has a crossbow which he usually uses for short range combats. Since he is also a very rich man, he also has an access to a lot of hi-tech gadgets.

But as they say, nothing beats the real thing. There are also a lot of real life champion archers. Just like Mr. Howard Hill dubbed unofficially as “the world’s greatest archer”. He won 196 straight archery field competitions and also a great bowhunter.

Hill is an expert with any type of bows like Oliver Queen. And yes, he was also successful in doing the Robin Hood shot although some says that the arrow’s shaft is made of bamboo. Howard’s archery skill excelled in all branches whether its target, field and the most difficult flight. A very skilled shooter that can hit objects tossed up in air, of course with his bow and arrow.

These guys have really made their names big in the world of archery. And may they be real or make-believe, surely archery itself, will be continuously a significant and interesting practice and art to many of us all over the globe.
